Mumbai Launches ONDC-Linked OneTicket for Multi-Line Metro as Chennai Rolls Out Unified QR Transit App

The twin rollouts aim to simplify multi-modal journeys via single QR tickets on open digital rails like ONDC.

Overview

  • Mumbai’s enhanced OneTicket app now issues a single QR code for travel across multiple metro lines, with gate scanning that removes the need for separate purchases.
  • The app integrates with the Open Network for Digital Commerce, is developed by SequelString with support from Mumbai Metro One, and is available as OneTicket on Android and OneTicketIndia on iOS.
  • OneTicket was piloted on Metro Line 3 in June 2025 and has been expanded based on user feedback for wider use across the city’s growing network.
  • In Chennai, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin launched the Chennai One app to unify tickets across Metro Rail, MTC buses, and Namma Yatri autos and taxis, with MRTS and suburban trains slated to follow.
  • Chennai One offers a universal QR ticket, real-time schedules, digital payments and multilingual support, with observers noting that uptake, system resilience and inter-agency coordination will determine success.
