Overview

  • The ₹556 crore Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT), spanning 415,000 square feet, is now operational, handling up to one million passengers annually and five ships simultaneously.
  • The terminal, developed under the Cruise Bharat Mission, aims to establish Mumbai as a global cruise hub, reducing reliance on foreign ports for Indian travelers.
  • Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also unveiled sustainability initiatives, including a Shore-to-Ship power facility to reduce emissions, and inaugurated the restored Sagar Upvan Gardens in Colaba.
  • Heritage restoration projects, such as the Fire Memorial at Victoria Docks and historic buildings Fort House and Evelyn House, were also completed as part of the launch event.
  • MoUs worth ₹5,700 crore were signed for infrastructure development at Vadhavan Port, expanding India’s cargo handling capabilities with new terminals for container, bulk, and liquid cargo.
