Mumbai ISKCON Temple Targeted by Hoax Bomb Threat with Political Ultimatum

Police registered a criminal intimidation case after a bomb disposal squad found no explosives, launching cyber forensics to trace the threat email.

The temple received an email that said that five RDX IEDs, powerful explosives, had been planted in the temple premises.

Overview

  • The email, sent from Immanuel_sekaran@outlook.com to the temple’s official address, demanded implementation of late Tamil Nadu Police Association leader Nainar Dass’s recommendations within 16 hours under threat of five RDX IED detonations.
  • Security manager Rahul Shantaram Govekar discovered the threat on July 20 and reported it to Gamdevi police, who registered an FIR for criminal intimidation under section 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
  • A Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad teamed with Gamdevi officers to search the Girgaon Chowpatty premises but found no explosives.
  • Cyber crime units have been deployed to perform digital forensics and trace the email’s origin as part of the ongoing investigation.
  • This hoax is the latest in a nationwide series of false bomb threats since October 2024 targeting religious, educational and public venues to exert political pressure.
