Overview
- On July 21 the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation issued a circular raising the fine for potholes near Ganpati pandals from ₹2,000 to ₹15,000 per pothole.
- The Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvaya Samiti and the Public Ganeshotsav Coordination Committee met in Dadar over July 26–27 to formally urge the BMC and state government to rescind the hike.
- Mandal leaders argue the sixfold increase places an unfair financial burden on festival organizers compared with contractors who damage roads.
- The Samiti has formed two subcommittees to address hyperlocal issues in the eastern and western suburbs as part of its coordinated response.
- Mandals are also pressing for waivers on immersion guarantees, insurance coverage for devotees and organizers, and concessional electricity supply.
