Mumbai Father Arrested for Strangling 4-Month-Old Daughter Over Family Disputes

Sanjay Kokare, a 40-year-old unemployed man from Ghatkopar, Mumbai, was arrested for allegedly strangling his 4-month-old daughter to death.
The incident occurred on March 1, 2025, while Kokare's wife, Shaila, was at work; she discovered the infant's death upon returning home and informed the police.
Police investigations revealed that Kokare resented the birth of his third child, a daughter, citing financial difficulties and a preference for not having another child.
Kokare reportedly used a rope or curtain cord to strangle the baby, acting out of anger and frustration after being unable to stop her crying.
A case of murder has been registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and authorities are investigating the suspect's mental state and motives.
