Mumbai Ends Stamp Office Jurisdiction Rules, Allowing Adjudication at Any of Six Offices

Officials say the change takes effect immediately, easing trips and queues by letting residents pick whichever city office is most convenient.

Overview

  • Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced the policy on Oct. 14 via a post on X.
  • Residents and businesses no longer need to file in the area of their residence or workplace, removing a long-standing location requirement.
  • The reform covers property agreements, lease deeds, inheritance deeds and other related documents handled by stamp offices.
  • Services are available across six Mumbai locations, including Borivali, Kurla, Andheri, Mumbai City and the main office near the Old Custom House (Enforcement 1 and 2).
  • NDTV reported the change is effective immediately, and it noted Bawankule’s separate push to settle land measurement cases within 30 days with additional surveyor support.
