Mumbai Customs Seizes Rs 21.8-Crore Drugs, Currency and Gold in Four-Day CSMIA Sweep

Targeted checks on Southeast Asia-linked flights produced NDPS arrests, with investigators now tracing networks.

  • Between September 21 and 24, officers at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport conducted intelligence-led operations that netted contraband worth more than Rs 21.8 crore.
  • A passenger arriving from Colombo was found with 2.624 kg of suspected hydroponic cannabis concealed in a trolley bag and was arrested under the NDPS Act.
  • Customs took into custody a Bangkok arrival after recovering 18.400 kg of suspected hydroponic cannabis from checked baggage.
  • Three outbound passengers were intercepted carrying undeclared foreign currency: Rs 7.11 lakh and Rs 49.38 lakh on a Dubai flight, and Rs 19.17 lakh on a Jakarta flight.
  • Officials also seized an unclaimed packet containing 365 grams of gold dust valued at Rs 38.10 lakh from a washroom near immigration, acting under the Customs Act.
