Mumbai Customs Seize Rs 5.82 Crore Hydroponic Weed, High-End Drones and Exotic Wildlife in Airport Checks

The interceptions followed specific intelligence over Oct. 4–5 at CSMIA.

Overview

  • Three Bangkok arrivals were caught with 1.964 kg, 1.93 kg and 1.933 kg of hydroponic marijuana concealed in checked trolley bags, valued at about Rs 5.82 crore in total.
  • All three drug couriers were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, with each consignment priced at roughly Rs 1.93–1.964 crore on the illicit market.
  • Customs intercepted a passenger from Colombo carrying 10 advanced drones worth Rs 32.19 lakh hidden in luggage, with models reported to include DJI Mavic 4 Pro, Matrice 4T/4E, Inspire 3 and Avata 2.
  • A separate Bangkok passenger was held for smuggling exotic wildlife, including 19 iguanas, 10 orange bearded dragons, a quince monitor lizard and multiple small mammals, with arrest under the Customs Act and Wildlife Protection Act.
  • Officials said the actions stemmed from routine screening guided by specific intelligence, and surveillance and investigations into the networks remain ongoing.
