Mumbai Customs Seize Rs 25.47-Crore Hydroponic Weed, With Gold and Foreign Currency Also Recovered in 9-Day Sweep

The cases stem from nine days of profiling-led checks targeting Bangkok arrivals.

Overview

  • Between November 25 and December 3, officials recovered 25.4 kg of suspected hydroponic cannabis valued at about Rs 25.47 crore in eight cases at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
  • In two sets of operations, officers seized 8.68 kg through spot profiling and 16.79 kg based on specific intelligence, with all consignments traced to passengers arriving from Bangkok.
  • Nine passengers were detained across the drug cases and arrested under provisions of the NDPS Act as investigators pursue the suppliers and intended Mumbai handlers.
  • Separately, three gold-smuggling cases led to the seizure of 744.28 grams valued at Rs 81.67 lakh from three passengers.
  • In another case, officials intercepted undeclared foreign currency of USD 12,000, equivalent to about Rs 10.53 lakh, from a passenger.
