Overview

  • On June 22, Customs officers at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport intercepted two travelers from Bangkok and two airport employees, seizing 11.881 kg of hydroponic weed and 4.44 kg of 24-karat gold dust.
  • The hydroponic marijuana, valued at Rs 11.88 crore, was found in vacuum-sealed packets hidden inside pillow covers within trolley bags.
  • Gold dust worth Rs 4.24 crore was recovered in wax-filled capsules concealed in the socks of the arrested airport staff members.
  • All four suspects have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and relevant provisions of the Customs Act following intelligence from the Air Intelligence Unit.
  • Customs investigators are tracing the operation’s broader syndicate to uncover potential networks behind the sophisticated concealment methods.
