Mumbai Court Grants Pre-Arrest Bail to SP MLA Abu Azmi Over Aurangzeb Remarks

Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi was granted anticipatory bail by a Mumbai sessions court following an FIR over his remarks praising Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
Azmi's comments described Aurangzeb as a 'good administrator' and claimed his reign expanded India's borders, sparking allegations of hurting religious sentiments.
The court required Azmi to furnish a ₹20,000 surety bond and appear before the police on March 12, 13, and 15 for investigation.
Azmi apologized for his remarks, stating they were based on historical accounts, and accused political rivals of exploiting the situation for gains.
The MLA was suspended from the Maharashtra Assembly for the remainder of the budget session but later paid tribute to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj on his martyrdom day.
