Overview
- An Additional Sessions Judge in Dindoshi on December 18 acquitted Yashwant Suranje under IPC 509, with the decision reported on December 26–27.
- The court upheld convictions under IPC 506 for criminal intimidation and IPC 504 for intentional insult after reviewing the evidence.
- The sentence was reduced to custody till the rising of the court or, in the alternative, a Rs 200 fine, which the judge said was appropriate given the circumstances.
- The case arose from a November 10, 2018 late-night airport cab dispute that escalated during the ride to Bandra, according to the prosecution.
- Suranje appealed the January magistrate ruling, contending Section 509’s elements were not met and that the earlier jail term was unduly harsh.
