Mumbai Authorities Crack Down on Speeding Along New Coastal Road

Nearly 600 motorists, including high-end car owners, fined for over-speeding as officials enforce stricter traffic regulations.

Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and Mumbai Traffic Police issued 596 e-challans for over-speeding on the 10-km Mumbai Coastal Road from February 13-17, 2025.
High-end vehicles, including BMWs, Audis, and Mercedes, were among those fined during the enforcement drive targeting illegal racing and reckless driving.
Four flying squads were deployed at key entry and exit points to monitor traffic violations and ensure compliance with speed limits.
The crackdown follows a previous incident of illegal racing that resulted in a crash and raised concerns about safety and noise pollution on the coastal road.
The Mumbai Coastal Road, designed to ease congestion, has reduced travel time between Bandra and Marine Drive to 10-12 minutes and sees daily traffic of 18,000-20,000 vehicles.
