Mumbai and Pune Launch Major Cleanliness Drives Post-Ganeshotsav

- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) collected 363 metric tonnes of waste from Mumbai's beaches and chowpatties in two days following Ganesh idol immersions.
- Over 7,000 BMC workers and volunteers participated in the cleanup, which also involved converting 550 metric tonnes of floral offerings into organic fertilizer.
- The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) gathered 167 tonnes of waste and 7.06 lakh kilograms of nirmalya (floral offerings) during the 11-day festival.
- PMC set up 45 artificial tanks and 516 iron tanks for idol immersion, with a focus on avoiding natural water bodies and promoting eco-friendly practices.
- Both cities implemented extensive waste management and recycling efforts, with collected materials being processed into compost for use in public parks and by farmers.
