Mumbai ANC Seizes 9,800 Psychotropic Tablets in Govandi Raid

Officials say the haul will be used to trace suppliers and curb street-level sale of prescription 'button' tablets.

  • The Anti-Narcotics Cell's Worli unit carried out a search of a Govandi residence between the late hours of October 6 and early October 7 after receiving specific intelligence.
  • Officers recovered 4,500 Nitrazepam tablets sold as NITCOR-10 and 5,300 Alprazolam tablets sold as PROCALM-1 for a combined total of 9,800 pills valued at about Rs 2.53 crore.
  • Police recorded weights and estimated values for each drug with Nitrazepam at about 2.475 kg and Rs 1.98 crore and Alprazolam at about 689 grams and Rs 55.12 lakh.
  • A case was registered at Deonar Police Station under Sections 8(c) and 22(c) of the NDPS Act and one person was taken into custody with their identity not disclosed.
  • Senior ANC and Mumbai Crime officers supervised the operation and said investigators are probing the supply chain, intended buyers and any wider street distribution network as part of ongoing enforcement in the city.
