Mumbai Allows Two-Hour Pigeon Feeding at Four Designated Sites

The civic move is a temporary step under High Court review.

Overview

  • Permission covers Worli Reservoir, Lokhandwala Back Road near the Versova sewage plant, the old Airoli–Mulund octroi naka on the Airoli–Mulund Link Road, and Gorai Maidan, with feeding restricted to 7–9 am.
  • Existing kabutarkhanas shut since August remain closed under earlier High Court directions.
  • Approval requires a voluntary organisation to apply, manage the site, maintain cleanliness, prevent traffic or pedestrian obstruction, post health-awareness signage, and address complaints.
  • Assistant municipal commissioners will act as ward-level nodal officers for the designated locations.
  • The BMC reports 9,779 citizen submissions on the issue, and says the interim arrangement will stay in place pending the expert committee’s report and further court orders.
