Mumbai Air Quality Deteriorates to Unhealthy, Hotspots Reach Hazardous Levels

IMD says winter-like conditions are trapping pollution.

  • Mumbai’s overall AQI stood at 226 on Friday morning, placing the city in the unhealthy category, according to AQI.in.
  • Wadala Truck Terminal recorded a hazardous AQI of 396, with Colaba at 302 and other central hubs such as BKC and Sion at 283.
  • Earlier CPCB/Sameer data showed severe pockets on Thursday, including Sewri at 316, BKC at 280, Deonar at 234 and Navy NagarColaba at 232.
  • IMD forecasts clear skies with temperatures near 33°C by day and about 20°C at night, conditions associated with dry northeasterlies and low humidity.
  • Residents reported haze, reduced visibility and a faint burning smell, and some western suburbs were relatively better yet still poor, such as Kandivali East at 123 and Powai at 143.
