Overview

  • The first section of the 21 km undersea tunnel between Bandra Kurla Complex and Thane has been opened, creating a continuous bore for high-speed tracks.
  • Track laying, overhead electrical wiring, station construction and bridge works are proceeding at a rapid pace across both Gujarat and Maharashtra stretches.
  • Fifteen river bridges are complete and four more are in advanced stages, while eight of the planned 12 stations have reached completion or are nearing it.
  • The Japanese government has confirmed it will introduce next-generation E10 Shinkansen trains on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor with a simultaneous debut in Japan.
  • Trial runs are scheduled for 2026 with full commercial service targeted by 2028 under a financing plan that includes an 81% low-interest JICA loan.
