Overview
- A crash on the A1 near Stuhr on Wednesday morning saw a 34-year-old driver hit the rear of a lorry nearly unbraked, suffer serious injuries, be helped from the wreck by bystanders and be taken to hospital.
- On the A61 near Bad Kreuznach a Volkswagen rear-ended a stopped Audi, leaving the 83-year-old Audi driver seriously hurt and the 59-year-old VW driver lightly injured, and forcing a full carriageway closure of about three-and-a-half hours.
- A frontal collision on the B16 near Oberstimm involved an Audi and a tractor-trailer and was preliminarily linked to driver fatigue after the Audi crossed into oncoming traffic, with both vehicles later towed and the road cleaned.
- The crashes caused major traffic disruption, including an ADAC-reported backlog of roughly eight kilometres and at least 50 minutes delay on the A1 plus lengthy detours on routes that replaced closed motorway sections.
- Firefighters and rescue teams carried out vehicle extraction, absorbed leaked oils and arranged recovery at the scenes, and police say investigations remain open with witness appeals to establish exact causes.
