• A 62-year-old Mahim resident, Ahmad Husain Shaikh, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing 115 grams of Mephedrone worth ₹17.25 lakh in April 2022.
• Shaikh's conviction followed a special NDPS court ruling that found the prosecution had proven his guilt beyond reasonable doubt, with procedural safeguards upheld.
• In a separate case, a Vasai resident, John Joseph, received a 10-year sentence for selling 300 grams of Mephedrone in January 2021, with the court imposing a ₹1 lakh fine.
• Thane police arrested two individuals, Moin Mohammad Arif Nirban and Mohammad Muzamil Liyaqat Ansari, for possessing 152.5 grams of Mephedrone intended for sale, valued at ₹25.88 lakh.
• Authorities are continuing investigations into the Thane case to trace the source of the contraband and potential buyers.
