Multiple Greater Manchester stabbings leave one man critical as police arrest six

Police have extended stop and search powers to tackle a spate of weekend knife attacks in Greater Manchester.

Overview

  • On May 25 a 25-year-old man suffered life-threatening stab wounds on Ashton Road in Droylsden and was airlifted to hospital.
  • In the early hours of May 26 two men were stabbed on Cobden Street in Pendleton, leaving one in critical condition and another with minor injuries.
  • Three men aged 27, 31 and 33 have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder over the Pendleton double stabbing.
  • Three 18-year-olds were also arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with separate incidents in Moss Side and Longsight.
  • Salford CID detectives continue to lead enquiries at multiple scenes and local councillor John Warmisham has condemned the region’s rising knife crime.
