Overview
- The seismic sequence that struck Granada on Tuesday produced five tremors in under an hour, with the main shock recorded at about magnitude 4.7–4.8 by the national agency.
- The epicenter was located near Gójar and Alhendín and the strongest tremor occurred around 10:37–10:38 a.m., followed by several replicas across the metropolitan area.
- Officials ordered a preventive evacuation of the Alhambra and closed five churches for technical inspection, and authorities confirmed three people suffered minor injuries, including a child taken to hospital.
- Emergency services received more than 50 calls reporting façade falls, cracks and debris, and videos and reports showed fallen trees, damaged vehicles and localized structural damage in historic neighborhoods.
- The August 18 activity follows a larger August 15 quake of about magnitude 5.0–5.2, and regional agencies including the IGN, EMA 112 and the Junta de Andalucía are keeping the area under close watch for further replicas and safety risks.
