Multiple Deadly Crashes Across Brazil With Two Family Deaths on BR-330 and Four Killed in Rodoanel Fall

Authorities have opened multiple inquiries into the weekend crashes, with causes pending forensic analysis and searches ongoing for fleeing drivers.

Overview

  • On Monday morning, a bus and pickup collided head-on on the BR-330 in Balsas (MA), killing a couple aged 32 and 25 and their 9-year-old daughter, the second family to die on the same road within 48 hours, according to the PRF.
  • In a separate crash Saturday night on the same stretch near Balsas, a pickup swerved to avoid a motorcycle without lights, crossed into the opposite lane, and hit a truck, killing a mother, father, and their 7-year-old son; the truck driver remained at the scene.
  • In São Bernardo do Campo (SP), four young people died and one survived after a car fell about 10 meters from a Rodoanel access ramp on Sunday night; the SSP called in perícia and police registered the case as choque and homicídio culposo.
  • In Ibitirama (ES), a 68-year-old father, his 1-year-old son, and a 6-year-old stepdaughter were run over by a truck while walking to church; security video shows the truck fleeing and police say the driver has not been located.
  • Other incidents under investigation include suspected hit-and-runs that killed a 25-year-old pedestrian in São Paulo’s Vila Medeiros and a 76-year-old on BR-232 in Bezerros (PE), as well as multiple fatal motorcycle and car collisions in MG, MS, MT, RN, and SP.
