Multiple Crashes on NSW M1/Pacific Highway Leave Two Dead, Close Southbound Stretch

Police have launched inquiries with appeals for dashcam footage during lengthy delays.

Overview

  • An SUV and a four-wheel-drive collided southbound at Bangalow about 2:35pm, killing one driver and sending a 44-year-old man to Lismore Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Around 2:40pm near Coolongolook, an SUV and a sedan crashed head-on and caught fire, with a body found in the sedan and the SUV driver, a woman in her 50s, airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in serious condition.
  • A third multi-vehicle crash about 3:40pm affected northbound lanes, with one of two lanes closed and casualties yet to be confirmed, according to Live Traffic NSW.
  • Southbound lanes between Coolongolook and Bulahdelah are closed, with light vehicles diverted via Wooton Way or The Lakes Way and heavy vehicles held due to unsuitable detours.
  • NSW Police established crime scenes at the sites and urged anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers or Manning Great Lakes Police.
