Multiple 48-Hour Dispersal Orders Issued After Hartlepool Park Disorder

Police will use dispersal powers, thermal footage, high-visibility patrols, partner engagement, school outreach to identify youths, deter repeat disorder.

Overview

  • Police responded to a series of incidents that began with a large gathering at Bishop Cuthbert Park when fireworks were launched toward homes and in the direction of a care home, prompting a 48-hour dispersal order to be imposed.
  • On Saturday night about 100 youngsters gathered in Ward Jackson Park where they set off fireworks, hurled eggs at officers when police arrived, and attempted to move into Rossmere Park which was already covered by a dispersal order.
  • Cleveland Police have now put three consecutive 48-hour dispersal orders in place covering Bishop Cuthbert, Rossmere and Ward Jackson parks and Greater Manchester Police issued a separate 48-hour order for Ordsall in Salford.
  • Officers released thermal footage showing dozens of youths and fireworks in parks and said they will use that evidence together with high-visibility patrols to direct people away, arrest anyone who returns during the orders, and progress inquiries.
  • Police and local partners say they will combine enforcement with school visits, parent engagement and targeted interventions to address criminal damage, reassure residents and reduce the chance of repeat disorder.
