Overview
- Enforcement teams in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gautam Budh Nagar, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Maharashtra stepped up inspections in the days before major festivals and destroyed large quantities of dairy products including about 4.3 quintals of khoya, roughly 508 kg of paneer in Delhi and about 650 kg in Gautam Budh Nagar.
- Raids uncovered specific adulterants and illicit equipment such as skimmed milk powder used to dilute milk, hydrogen peroxide, detergents and chemicals labelled saifolite, plus vegetable fat and whitening agents in sweets and paneer.
- Authorities filed FIRs and launched legal action under provisions including Sections 274 and 275 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita while initiating suspension or cancellation processes for food-business registrations and shutting down implicated units.
- Teams collected dozens of enforcement samples and sent them to designated laboratories for detailed testing, and officials say further seizures, prosecutions or bans will follow confirmed lab results.
- Regulators say the surge in inspections responds to higher festival demand that raises risk in dairy supply chains and that FSSAI-guided risk-based checks and mobile testing units are being used to protect consumers and curb organised adulteration.
