Multi-State Crackdown on Drug Networks Nets Crores in Seizures

Coordinated multi-state raids have yielded narcotics valued at crores of rupees with multiple arrests across India.

Over 220 police teams, comprising over 1,700 police personnel, under the supervision of 98 gazetted officers, conducted raids at as many as 445 locations across the state.

Overview

  • Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested Faisal Ahmad Sheikh at a Kupwara checkpoint on May 26, recovering a heroin-like substance under FIR No. 149/2025 of the NDPS Act.
  • Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar dismantled a Canada-linked narcotics syndicate, seizing 2.5 kg of heroin, ₹42 lakh in cash and arresting three operatives including Ajaypal and Hardeep Singh.
  • Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department, aided by the Young Mizo Association’s anti-drugs squad, seized 2 kg of heroin and 9.8 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth ₹4 crore, detaining two suspects near Aizawl.
  • Assam Police in Sribhumi district arrested three peddlers and confiscated 324 g of heroin valued at ₹2 crore as part of intensified anti-narcotics operations.
  • Since late May, coordinated raids across Assam, Punjab, J&K and Mizoram have intercepted consignments valued at crores of rupees, exposing transnational smuggling routes and terror-financing hawala networks.
