Multi-Agency Hunt Continues in J&K Forests After Rajouri Gunfight

Forces now maintain tight cordons in forested belts following a brief gunfight with no casualties.

Overview

  • The Jammu zone police chief confirmed an exchange of fire with militants in Rajouri’s Beeranthub-Kandi area around 7:15–7:20 pm as Army, J&K Police (SOG) and CRPF units rushed in and sealed the area.
  • Operations continued into Wednesday with a lull in firing, reinforcements holding the cordon in Dhar Sakri, and residents asked to remain indoors until the area is cleared.
  • Security officials assess a small team of roughly 3–4 militants was involved and believe the group slipped deeper into adjoining forest stretches after the initial contact.
  • A separate joint search is underway in Udhampur’s Basantgarh (Dharni Top) after locals reported seeing three armed men, with the area sealed and no confirmed contact so far.
  • Additional searches were launched in parts of the Chenab Valley, including Doda, as agencies review intelligence about a potentially larger militant presence that remains under verification.
