Overview

  • Camp monitors alerted SOS Rioja at 16:53 on June 27 after the group became disoriented on a route linking the Ermita de Lomos de Orios, the Las Majadas trail and the Cascadas de Puente Ra.
  • SOS Rioja coordinated with Guardia Civil, a forest ranger familiar with the terrain, GREIM mountain rescue and additional camp staff to launch an aerial and ground search.
  • Searchers traced voices near the Puente de La Ra before a forest ranger pinpointed the children at the Cortafuegos de La Lastra firebreak at 19:14.
  • Several children showing signs of exhaustion and dehydration were carried by rescuers, while others followed monitors back to a rendezvous point in La Blanca.
  • By 21:20 on June 28 all 50 children and four monitors were back at camp unharmed with no medical treatment required.
