Mulchfest Opens Citywide for Christmas Tree Drop-Off Through Jan. 11

Curbside composting offers an alternative to park drop-off locations.

Overview

  • The Parks Department will host Chipping Weekend on Jan. 10–11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., when visitors can watch trees get chipped and take home mulch.
  • DSNY will collect clean, unbagged trees on regular composting collection days, with stands, lights, tinsel, and ornaments removed.
  • Mulch will be available at select locations noted with an asterisk on the city’s Mulchfest map.
  • Officials are aiming to exceed last season’s total of 52,569 trees recycled.
  • Drop-off and chipping sites operate across all five boroughs, including Brooklyn locations such as Pier 3 Plaza, Fort Greene Park, Prospect Park, Domino Park, McCarren Park, and McGolrick Park.
