MTV Cancels 'Catfish: The TV Show' After Nine Seasons

The decision follows months of uncertainty during the Paramount–Skydance shake-up.

Overview

  • Producers have permission to shop the series to other outlets, and MTV will keep airing episodes from the existing library.
  • Nev Schulman and former cohost Max Joseph confirmed the cancellation in a Sept. 22 Instagram video, with Joseph suggesting a possible pause and Schulman saying the version fans know has ended.
  • The series premiered in 2012 and concluded Season 9 in July 2024, delivering well over 200 episodes and spawning international editions in multiple countries.
  • Max Joseph cohosted the first seven seasons before departing in 2018; rotating guests followed until Kamie Crawford became permanent and later exited in October 2024.
  • The show’s renewal had been in limbo following the Paramount–Skydance merger; Schulman recently shifted careers by becoming a licensed real estate agent in New York.
