MétéoFrance Puts Hérault on Orange Alert for Torrential Rain and Flooding

The alert runs from 6 p.m. Saturday to Sunday evening as a concentrated Mediterranean system targets the department with prolonged downpours.

  • Forecasters expect 100 to 150 mm of rain, locally up to 220 mm on higher terrain, equating to two to three times a typical month’s total.
  • Rain will spread and intensify Saturday afternoon, peak in the evening with isolated thunderstorms, then weaken on Sunday.
  • An easterly gale is forecast on the coast with temporary gusts of 80 to 90 km/h.
  • Tarn, Aveyron, Lozère, Ardèche and Gard are on yellow vigilance, and Corsica is on yellow with a possible upgrade in later bulletins.
  • Heavy mountain snow is expected above roughly 1,400 meters in southern massifs, including the southern Alps.
