Overview
- Transport minister César Sandoval and prime minister Eduardo Arana said they will attend a technical meeting proposed by Mayor Rafael López Aliaga on the Lima–Chosica service, with Arana pledging a green light for the process.
- Sandoval said the ministry never opposed the plan and underscored that any advance must be technically justified under established procedures, with dates adjustable only if viability is confirmed.
- The initiative, which would use locomotives and wagons donated by Caltrain, remains under formal evaluation by the MTC.
- López Aliaga said he has restored a cordial relationship with Sandoval and, on September 19, invited him and the premier to a technical session to address the project’s outstanding issues.
- An RPP-published CPI survey conducted September 11–17 found 54.9% of respondents think the MTC should support the mayor’s proposal, with support strongest in Lima-Callao.
