MTA to Swap F and M Weekday Routes Between Queens and Manhattan Starting Monday

The weekday tunnel swap targets the Queens Plaza choke point to improve reliability for 1.2 million riders.

Overview

  • The change runs on weekdays from about 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with overnight and weekend service remaining on current routes.
  • F trains will serve Queens Plaza, Court Sq–23 St, Lexington Av/53 St and 5 Av/53 St, while M trains will serve 21 St–Queensbridge, Roosevelt Island, Lexington Av/63 St and 57 St.
  • Officials say rerouting removes conflicting merges at Queens Plaza, enabling more consistent schedules and additional morning M service.
  • The MTA has updated permanent and temporary signs and deployed customer ambassadors handing out flyers to guide riders before the switch.
  • Some commuters anticipate new transfers or longer trips, though the agency projects reduced delays and less crowding on peak F corridors.
