Overview
- The weekend service changes begin the weekend of July 24 and run from as early as 9:30 p.m. Fridays through 5 a.m. Mondays across five consecutive weekends through Aug. 24.
- Under the plan, 1 trains will not run south of 14th Street, 2 trains will operate only to 34th Street–Penn Station, and 3 train service will be suspended during each affected weekend.
- To keep service moving, the MTA will reroute 5 trains into Brooklyn to Flatbush Avenue–Brooklyn College, have 2 trains cover some Bronx segments normally served by the 5, and use the 4 to substitute for parts of the 3 line.
- Regular weeknight service changes on the 1, 2 and 3 lines will continue through Aug. 21, and the agency is urging riders to allow extra travel time and use alternate lines where possible.
- Officials say crews must replace century‑old switches that let trains change tracks to reduce future delays, but the timing and notice have drawn criticism after Councilmember Christopher Marte said his office received only three weeks' notice while the MTA says it notified officials in late June.
