Overview

  • Starting June 29, the MTA launched Phase One in Queens, introducing 16 new routes, altering 67 existing lines and removing five services
  • The rollout coincides with boosted frequencies on 16 high-ridership local routes across Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island using 29 refurbished buses
  • The multi-year overhaul is backed by an extra $35 million in annual MTA funding and $8 million from the Outer Borough Transportation Account
  • MTA officials estimate the full redesign will place 124,000 more residents within a quarter-mile of a bus every ten minutes and 68,000 more within reach of a 24/7 route
  • Public outreach will continue under a phased approach with Phase Two adjustments planned for August 31
