MSRTC to Save ₹3.23 Lakh Daily as IOC and BPCL Boost Diesel Discount

The move will generate about Rs 11.8 crore in annual savings, paving the way for planned fleet growth alongside a shift to competitive diesel procurement.

Overview

  • Starting August 1, Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum will raise the diesel discount for MSRTC by 30 paise per litre.
  • The enhanced rebate will cut MSRTC’s fuel expenditure by around Rs 3.23 lakh each day and Rs 11.8 crore annually.
  • Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik secured the rate increase through three to four meetings at Mantralaya after years of stagnant discounts.
  • MSRTC currently consumes about 10.78 lakh litres of diesel daily across its 251 depots under a more than 70-year partnership with the two state oil firms.
  • The corporation intends to add 5,000 buses per year and invite competitive tenders from private suppliers to further optimise procurement costs.
