MSRTC to Deploy 800–1,000 New Buses Daily for School Trips With 50% Fare Cut

The rollout aims to make post-Diwali educational tours safer and cheaper through a state-backed 50% fare concession.

Overview

  • Transport Minister and MSRTC chairman Pratap Sarnaik announced the plan on November 16, confirming daily availability of the new fleet for the excursion season.
  • Around 800 to 1,000 newly inducted buses will be dispatched from 251 depots across Maharashtra specifically for school and college excursions.
  • Each depot has been directed to ensure buses are available for institutions in its jurisdiction throughout the season.
  • Depot managers and station heads were instructed to meet principals to help plan trips to historical, religious and tourist destinations.
  • Last season, MSRTC operated 19,624 buses for educational tours and recorded Rs 92 crore in revenue, including government reimbursements.
