MSNBC to Drop Peacock Logo and Rebrand as MS NOW

The move is part of NBCUniversal’s spin-off of cable channels into Versant to establish MS NOW as an independent news brand.

Overview

  • MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler announced that later this year the network will adopt the name MS NOW, short for My Source for News, Opinion and the World.
  • Versant CEO Mark Lazarus confirmed that the NBC peacock symbol will be removed from the channel’s logo in the rebranding process.
  • The rebrand follows Comcast’s decision to spin off cable networks into a new company called Versant, separating MSNBC from NBC News.
  • CNBC will retain its current name while sports programming on USA Network and Golf Channel will be consolidated under a new USA Sports brand.
  • MS NOW is bolstering its newsroom by hiring reporters and editors to build a standalone news operation ahead of the year-end corporate spin
