M&S to Close 11 Cafes in Small Food Shops to Expand Food Offer

The retailer will repurpose the space for expanded food ranges within a £300 million store investment.

Overview

  • The closures cover fewer than 4% of M&S’s 316 food shops, and the company says all affected staff will be redeployed.
  • The move forms part of a store-rotation and investment programme targeting about 420 food stores by the end of 2028.
  • M&S will use the former cafe areas in smaller stores to broaden popular M&S Food ranges and increase product choice.
  • The company is also rolling out new branded coffee shops, including at the new Bristol Cabot Circus location.
  • The update comes as M&S continues to recover from an April cyberattack that halted online orders for around six weeks and is expected to cost roughly £300 million.
