M&S Revives St Michael Chocolate Bars From the 1980s

The reissue aims to drive shopper interest by using original-style packaging to evoke childhood memories.

Overview

  • M&S put Jet, Now, Sparks and Coconut Grove back on sale in Foodhalls on Wednesday, July 22 as full-size bars and in a 14-piece mini variety pack.
  • Each bar is sold in retro St Michael wrappers and made with Fairtrade milk chocolate, with Sparks featuring nougat and caramel, Jet adding peanuts to nougat and caramel, Now offering biscuit and caramel, and Coconut Grove containing a soft coconut centre.
  • Most individual bars are priced at £1 and weigh about 50g to 56g, while the retailer is also selling a 14-piece mini assortment for shoppers who want to try multiple flavours.
  • The relaunch follows the earlier return of the St Michael Take 4 bar and forms part of M&S’s archive-led strategy of reviving legacy products to spark media and social buzz.
  • Early online and in-store reactions have been largely nostalgic and positive, a response that may help drive footfall as M&S continues to modernise its foodhall estate.
