Overview
- M&S opened the Godalming Foodhall on July 16, with queues forming before the 8am launch and promotional giveaways for early shoppers.
- The store sits at The Wharf Retail Park opposite Waitrose and is reported as occupying more than 20,000 sq ft, with some coverage citing 22,000 sq ft.
- The layout prioritises a family ‘full shop’ offer and introduces format changes including a multi‑temperate organic aisle, an enlarged bakery with a coffee counter, grab‑and‑go counters for sushi and rotisserie chicken, a large freezer and a central cheese area.
- Godalming is the first M&S Foodhall to include a small kitchenware shop selling pans and utensils, and the site opened with about 80 new colleagues and trading hours of 08:00–21:00 Monday–Saturday and 10:00–16:00 on Sundays.
- The opening forms part of M&S’s regional push to roll out larger Foodhalls that combine full grocery ranges with experiential and impulse categories, a move that expands local choice and heightens competition with nearby grocers.
