Overview
- Greencore told retailers and regulators on Friday that pistachio nuts used in some ready-to-eat products tested positive for Salmonella, and the company and the Food Standards Agency have issued an urgent recall.
- The recall covers three Marks & Spencer lines and two Tesco Pinch ready meals with specific product codes and use-by dates up to October 8–13, and shoppers are asked to check packaging before consuming.
- Consumers are advised not to eat the affected items and can return them to the store for a full refund without a receipt; point-of-sale notices are being displayed in shops nationwide.
- Public-health advice from the FSA says people with Salmonella symptoms should stay away from work, school or nursery until at least 48 hours after symptoms stop and to seek medical help if severely unwell.
- The recall comes during a wider national Salmonella situation that has seen hundreds of cases, about 100 hospitalisations and two deaths, but authorities have not yet linked these specific pistachio findings conclusively to the larger outbreak and investigations continue.
