MRT Reliability Falls for Second Straight Month in September

LTA’s latest monthly report introduces passenger-focused measures, with 99.16% of trains on time in September.

Overview

  • The network’s 12-month moving average MKBF slipped to 1.67 million train-km between delays for Oct 2024–Sep 2025, down from 1.74 million a month earlier.
  • The North–South Line was the least reliable at 1.24 million train-km in September, while the Downtown Line led performance at 2.77 million train-km.
  • Two MRT disruptions longer than 30 minutes were recorded in September on the Circle Line on Sept 1 and the East–West Line on Sept 16, with a separate three-hour outage on the Punggol LRT on Sept 13.
  • The Thomson–East Coast Line remains excluded from the overall figure as it is not fully commissioned and logged 287,000 train-km between delays as teething issues are worked through with OEMs.
  • LTA shifted to monthly reporting and added indicators on punctuality, scheduled mileage operated and passenger impact, and a government task force will present reliability recommendations by end-2025.
