Overview
- The extended arm of the Mrinal Tai Gore Flyover was inaugurated and opened to traffic on Saturday, June 6 by Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde.
- The 750-metre, four‑lane connector links the Western Express Highway/Ram Mandir area to Goregaon and Relief Road and is expected to cut Goregaon–Andheri travel from about 30 minutes to roughly 5–10 minutes.
- Mumbai Traffic Police cleared illegally parked heavy vehicles from Relief Road in Jogeshwari West before the opening to prevent a bottleneck at the flyover landing, a move welcomed by resident groups.
- The project suffered multi-year delays, technical redesigns and rising costs that increased the budget to about Rs 248 crore and led the BMC to levy daily penalties on the contractor, rising to Rs 1 lakh per day in May.
- Officials and residents say some road surfacing and residual works still need attention and that continued enforcement against illegal parking will be crucial to secure the flyover’s congestion relief for daily commuters.
