Overview
- The district announced that Summer Academy, Extended Learning Opportunity and all indoor Milwaukee Recreation school sites will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 and 15.
- Officials made the decision in consultation with Milwaukee Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Totoraitis and described it as a precaution against forecasted excessive heat.
- Outdoor Milwaukee Recreation playgrounds with splash pads and wading pools will remain open to offer cooling, and staff urged that children be supervised by an adult at those sites.
- Summer meals will still be served at 13 designated Milwaukee Recreation sites around the city and recipients must eat the meals on site.
- The closures are explicitly temporary, the district expects to resume normal operations on July 16 pending updated weather conditions and further public-health guidance.
