MPF Says Seized Trancoso Paper Is Unrelated as Master–BRB Inquiry Stalls at STF

Justice Dias Toffoli now controls any new measures in the case, which awaits a jurisdiction ruling before work resumes.

Overview

  • Federal prosecutors told the lower court that a real-estate document mentioning deputy João Carlos Bacelar has no connection to alleged fraud in Banco Master–BRB credit-portfolio negotiations.
  • The MPF asked the 10th Federal Court to reconsider sending the entire case to the Supreme Court or to segregate the document and forward only that item, but the judge denied the request and sent everything to the STF.
  • After Toffoli ruled on December 3 that any new steps must be vetted by the Supreme Court, the Brasília court remitted the files, leaving the investigation paused pending his decision and a PGR opinion that had not yet been received by December 8.
  • Vorcaro’s defense sought to shift the case to Justice Kassio Nunes Marques by claiming a link to Operation Overclean based on the seized paperwork, but the STF kept the relator with Toffoli.
  • Toffoli’s late‑November private‑jet trip with a lawyer tied to the case drew sharp criticism from Transparency International, while Senator Rodrigo Pacheco argued the flight does not create suspicion and said the secrecy order is appropriate.
