MP Woman Tries Self-Immolation at Tehsil Office Over Longstanding Land Dispute

Local authorities plan to register a case following a written eviction order from the Tehsildar, with police scheduled to remove the occupants.

Ranjeeta Singh poured kerosene on her body at the Barwara Tehsil office on June 5 in an attempted suicide when officials failed to act on her land complaint.
She purchased 1,176 square feet of land in Bilayat Kala village in 2021, which current occupant Anurodh Tiwari has held since 1995 and has allegedly refused to vacate.
Singh accused the Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar of bias, saying they sided with BJP-linked encroachers despite her repeated visits and a formal complaint lodged six months earlier.
Naib Tehsildar Anuradha Singh defended the office’s handling, noting the dispute is before the courts and the case remains pending due to its contested nature.
Sub-divisional officer Umrawo Singh confirmed that once the Tehsildar issues a written order, a formal case will be filed for illegal encroachment and police will be deployed to evict the occupants.
