Ceará Consumer Watchdog Orders Clearer Prices at Viral Expocrato Candy Stall

The Ministério Público inspected the Doceria Deleites stand and warned that failure to show visible weight and price information could lead to interdiction or other sanctions.

Overview

  • The Ministério Público do Ceará and Decon inspected the Doceria Deleites stand on Wednesday and found no clear display of prices per weight and no size or weight references for portions.
  • Multiple customers told reporters they were surprised by final bills that ranged from about R$118 to R$177 and said stall staff pressured them to complete purchases or refused returns.
  • The vendor denies any fraud and says it posts prices of R$19.90 per 100g and R$199 per kilo while following a self-service model and sanitary rules that bar reusing cut pieces.
  • After the inspection the MPCE formally recommended the stand add visible price-per-weight signage and portion references and warned that the stall could be interdicted or face administrative measures if it does not comply.
  • Selling products by weight is legal in Brazil but the Consumer Protection Code requires enough pre-sale information for buyers to estimate final cost, and consumers may seek cancellation, refunds or other remedies if transparency is lacking.
