MP Congress, Farmers March to Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s Home Over MSP as Talks End Without Resolution

Demonstrators pressed for guaranteed MSP procurement in place of the state’s Bhavantar payout model.

Overview

  • MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari led hundreds of workers and farmers on Wednesday from the party office to the Union agriculture minister’s Bhopal residence for a dharna against the Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana.
  • Police tried to halt the nearly two‑kilometre march, a brief scuffle ensued, and a sack of wheat spilled at the residence gate as protesters raised slogans of “We need price, not subsidy.”
  • Shivraj Singh Chouhan met Patwari and a few protesters inside his home, after which the group returned to party headquarters with no immediate concessions announced.
  • Protesters sought MSP enforcement and direct procurement, immediate aid of Rs 20,000 per bigha, effective insurance and compensation surveys, and onion purchases at Rs 14–15 per kg.
  • The state says Bhavantar pays farmers the gap when mandi rates fall below Centre‑fixed MSPs, while Patwari cited past rollout failures and farmer distress to argue the scheme does not deliver.
